Iraq 2013: Saddam’s Palace at Babylon

Day 11 (cont) Babylon

Babylon view to Saddams Palace (TT)

Saddam’s Palace Babylon

We sought refuge from the intense heat in Saddam’s abandoned, ransacked palace overlooking Babylon. Gorgeous marble floors and carved panels; Magnificent chandeliers hung in fragments and graffiti was scrawled over the walls. The upper floor is now barred with razor wire but the whole complex is totally alone, with no custodians or gatekeepers and  we were able to roam the whole of the ground floor and outer terraces.

It’s a very spooky place.
